Ugandan Graduates Can Apply for DAAD-Funded Master’s Scholarships at Busitema University
Applications for the 2027 academic year close on 12 November 2026, offering eligible graduates an opportunity to pursue postgraduate studies in climate change and disaster management with financial support.
Ugandan graduates seeking to advance their education without shouldering the full cost of postgraduate study have a new opportunity to consider. Busitema University is advertising DAAD-funded scholarships for its Master of Science in Climate Change and Disaster Management programme, with applications due by 12 November 2026. The scholarships are offered through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which supports postgraduate education and academic development across Africa. The programme is designed to develop expertise in climate change, environmental resilience and disaster management—fields increasingly important to communities and institutions across Uganda. What does the scholarship cover? According to the published 2027 scholarship call, up to 13 awards are planned for the programme: five for in-country candidates and eight for candidates from other eligible countries within the region.
For eligible Ugandans studying in Uganda, the in-country scholarship provides a monthly stipend of €300, an annual study and research allowance of €460, and a one-time thesis publication allowance of €400. Tuition support is provided under the award terms, although applicants should confirm whether any university fees or other costs remain payable. The regional scholarship category has different provisions, including a higher monthly stipend and travel support, subject to the applicable award conditions. Applicants should consult the official DAAD call for the precise terms and eligibility requirements. The scholarships are planned to begin in August 2027 and may support studies for up to 24 months, subject to the programme conditions and satisfactory academic progress. Who can apply? The opportunity is aimed at qualified graduates from Sub-Saharan African countries who meet the academic and other eligibility requirements. Applicants generally need a completed three- or four-year bachelor’s degree with at least Second Class Upper Division or an equivalent qualification. Their most recent university degree must have been completed within the six years preceding the application. Candidates must also demonstrate strong motivation and sufficient command of the programme’s language of instruction. Women, recognised refugees, and applicants from marginalised regions or groups are particularly encouraged to apply. Meeting the scholarship requirements does not automatically guarantee admission to the master’s programme. Applicants must also satisfy Busitema University’s admission requirements and complete the required application procedures. Why study climate change and disaster management? Uganda’s economy and livelihoods depend heavily on agriculture and natural resources, leaving many communities exposed to changing rainfall patterns, drought, floods, landslides and other environmental risks. Specialised training in climate change and disaster management can prepare graduates to contribute to climate adaptation, environmental research, disaster preparedness and sustainable development. Potential career paths include work with government institutions, research organisations, non-governmental organisations and international development agencies. For graduates interested in addressing environmental challenges while building specialised professional skills, the programme offers a route into a field with growing practical importance. However, the scholarship does not guarantee employment after graduation. How to apply Interested graduates should review the official DAAD scholarship announcement, prepare the required academic and supporting documents, and follow the application instructions carefully.

The application process includes the DAAD scholarship application and a separate application for admission to Busitema University. Candidates should check both processes and their respective deadlines rather than assuming that completing one automatically completes the other. Important deadline: 12 November 2026. Applicants should begin preparing immediately to allow time to obtain transcripts, degree certificates, a recommendation from a university teacher, a CV and a motivation letter.
